Translating pain neuroscience into clinical practice

Have you ever felt puzzled by a complex presentation? Know that pain is influenced by multiple factors but not quite sure how and what to do about it? This lecture takes you through core neurobiological processes involved in pain and how multi-dimensional inputs (peripheral, emotional, cognitive, neuro-immune-endocrine systems) come together to influence the pain experience. Practical tips on assessment and integrating information from different aspects of a person’s health are included to improve your clinical care.

Dr Niamh Moloney (PhD, MManipTh, BPhysio) is a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist who combines 20 years of clinical and academic experience. Her research focuses on assessment of complex pain states. She practices clinically and has over 10 years experience teaching pre and post graduate physiotherapists.

Dr Martin Rabey (PhD, FACP, MManipThe, BSc(Hons)Physio) is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2009). He combines daily clinical practice with ongoing research into the multidimensional nature of persistent pain. He has taught pain neurophysiology to postgraduate clinicians since 2001.
